Amithlon mailing list purge continues
After the moderators of the H&P-run amithlon mailing list
recently removed me without comment or
reason, things have gotten even more ridiculous today. This morning (well,
noon :), I received the following instant message:

From: XXXXXXXXX [To: umisef]
now I have been unsubscribed from amithlon aswell..
What is remarkable about this is that the sender of this message has
never made a single post to the mailing list --- she was
strictly a lurker.
So what, exactly, was her crime? What did she do that got her kicked
off the mailing list? I am not sure. I can only think of three possibilities,
and all of them are rather depressing:
- This young lady's email address just happens to come from the
same domain as one of mine, Monash University. Monash University
has roughly 30,000 students, plus many staff.
- This young lady also happens to be the one who provided the
pre-shutdown web design for www.amithlon.net --- a site that
Haage&Partner were, according to my web logs, only too happy
to link to until the start of this week. She is, however,
totally uninvolved with the current design (and had some rather
strong words to say about it).
- And last but not least, as you might have guessed by now, she
happens to be my girlfriend.
I find it hard to believe that either of those ways of associating with me is
sufficient grounds for removing someone from a mailing list --- but
while she certainly holds opinions, this young lady has never taken those
opinions to the public in any way. She is not responsible in any way for
any websites which could possibly be seen as objectionable. She has never
posted to the mailing list. She has never so much as mentioned Amithlon
in a Usenet post. And yet, for some reason, she has become a persona non
grata as far as the list owners at Haage&Partner are concerned....
